Detoxify your Environment
At Reflections Extreme Clean, we are committed to helping you and your family enjoy the benefits of living in a clean and healthy home. And in addition to our eco-friendly cleaning services, we have compiled a list of ways you can detoxify your home.
Did you know certain house plants can help clean and filter the air you breath? Your home is full of dangerous toxins such as carbon monoxide, dioxin, chloroform, benzene and formaldehyde. NASA began studying house plants as a way to keep the air cleaner on the space station back in the 1980’s and found that Bamboo Palms, Philodendrons, Aloe Vera, The Peace Lily, Chinese Evergreens, and the Rubber Plant were among the plants that can actually help improve air quality. If you already have a few of these house plants, great! If not, add a few today.
As we mentioned in an earlier article, taking shoes off is one of the quickest and most effective ways of improving the cleanliness of your home. Start the habit of taking shoes off at the door and leave all the nasty toxins, bacteria and germs outside.
We spend a lot of time in our bedrooms so it’s vital to keep them a safe and healthy place to relax and rejuvenate. Throw out the candles and air fresheners that give off toxic fumes and exchange them for natural air fresheners and candles made from natural ingredients like essential oils and soy wax. Choose a natural mattress, non-toxic paint and natural furniture. Don’t forget to add a few air purifying houseplants to detox your room and add beauty.
It’s also important to use green cleaners to achieve your goal for a toxin-free home. When shopping for household cleaners, look for labels that say eco-friendly or green. In addition, read the list of ingredients. Not all “green products” are created equal. If you know someone who makes and sells organic, all-natural housecleaning products, buy those. You can also make your own natural products by using ingredients like vinegar, baking soda, and lemon. Using natural cleaning products will protect your health as well as save you money.
Get ride of plastic in your home. Start shopping in bulk and store food in glass containers. Potato chip bags and food that is sold in containers that use plastics are found to contain dangerous chemicals. The less plastic you have in your home, the better!
And finally, stop using antibacterial products. Most experts believe we should stop worrying so much about germs, and that using these products only leads to antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The truth is, plain old soap and hot water is pretty effective in keeping the germs away.
