Finding the energy to keep up with housekeeping during the winter months

The winter season is hear and with short days, lack of sunlight, and below freezing temperatures, it can make anyone feel unmotivated. In fact, seasonal disorder is a real condition that can seriously affect your mood. If you’re feeling the winter blues, it can affect many aspects of your life. Work, family, friends, and even your home, may not be getting the attention they deserve. If the dust and cobwebs are starting to build up, you haven’t taken out the vacuum in a while, or kept up with the laundry, it might be a good idea to work on your mood.

If you’re not a winter person and you prefer summer activities, look for a new hobby or activity you can do in the winter. For example, cross country skiing is an activity that almost anyone can do. Ice skating or snow shooing are also activities associated with winter that could give you a whole new appreciation of the season. If these activities aren’t for you, a simple walk on a snowy day can go a long way to boost your mood.

Being indoors during the winter months can leave you feeling lethargic, and without energy, especially when it comes to housekeeping. It’s important to get outdoors for some sunshine every day for at least 15 minutes. A short walk around the block will do wonders for your mood and increase your energy and motivation.  Even if it’s a cold and blustery day, a quick walk around the block can give you a spark of motivation that will help you feel better during the winter season.

The cold, the snow and sleet and lack of sunshine can make it tempting to stay inside but a lack of sunshine can lead to a vitamin D deficiency. Low levels of Vitamin D can make it easier to catch colds, can lead to depression, fatigue and tiredness, and to muscles and bone loss. If you’re feeling any of these symptoms, consult with your physician or pharmacist. They can recommend a Vitamin D supplement that will help.

Perhaps winter has you feeling unmotivated when it comes to your house. If that’s the case, grab some home decorating magazines and do a DIY project. Even something as simple as a new color on the walls can help you fall back in love with your home. Go for bright colors and window treatments that let the light in.

If you’re truly one of those people just waiting for spring, consider doing your spring cleaning in the winter. If you get your home ready for spring now, you won’t have to spend the time doing it in the spring. You will free up your time for getting out and enjoying the warmer weather.

Allowing your home get messy and cluttered will only increase that lack of energy and motivation during the winter. Keeping a clean and well-organized home can boost your mood and help you get through the winter months.
